When it's needed

When whitening makes sense.

Teeth darken over time — coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, aging, and certain foods all leave their mark on enamel. Whitening lifts those stains without altering tooth structure.

  • Yellowing or graying from age, diet, or smoking
  • Surface stains from coffee, tea, red wine, or curry
  • Finishing touch after braces or Invisalign
  • Preparation before veneers, crowns, or composite bonding (for colour matching)
  • A special occasion — wedding, photoshoot, milestone event
  • General refresh for a duller-looking smile

Our approach

Planned with precision. Performed with care.

Whitening at Madeel starts with the same question every time: is the mouth ready for it? Cavities, exposed dentine, recession, and active gum disease are addressed first. Existing restorations are noted — veneers, crowns, and fillings don't change colour, so the plan accounts for that. Only then does whitening begin, with the option that fits your timeline and sensitivity profile.

  • Pre-whitening assessment

Every whitening starts with an oral health check. Cavities, exposed roots, or active gum disease are addressed first — whitening doesn't go onto an unhealthy mouth.

  • Philips Zoom in-clinic

Blue-LED activated hydrogen peroxide gel, enriched with Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP) and fluoride. Three 15-minute cycles. Up to eight shades brighter in one visit.

  • Custom-tray home whitening

Trays moulded to your bite from a dental impression. Three professional-strength gels and written instructions. Gradual brightening over 1–2 weeks with hygienist follow-up.

  • Sensitivity managed, not ignored

ACP and fluoride in the gel reduce sensitivity during the procedure. A desensitising fluoride finish is applied after Zoom. For sensitive patients, the protocol adjusts before whitening starts.

Process

What to expect, step by step.

  1. 01

Oral health check and shade record before whitening.

  2. 02

Professional cleaning if surface stains and tartar need removing first.

  3. 03

Choice of in-clinic Zoom or home whitening based on goal and sensitivity.

  4. 04

Whitening performed (Zoom: same visit; home: 1–2 weeks).

  5. 05

Desensitising fluoride applied (Zoom) or follow-up check (home).

  6. 06

Maintenance plan — diet guidance, touch-up gels, recall interval.

Benefits

Why professional whitening over store-bought.

Over-the-counter whitening uses lower-concentration gel applied with one-size-fits-all strips or trays that leak onto gums. Professional whitening uses higher-concentration gel under controlled conditions, with custom trays or in-clinic isolation — more predictable results, less gum irritation, and enamel protected throughout.

  1. Visibly brighter smile within hours (Zoom) or 1–2 weeks (home).
  2. Up to eight shades whiter in a single Zoom session.
  3. ACP and fluoride in the gel strengthen enamel during whitening.
  4. Sensitivity controlled with desensitising fluoride application.
  5. Results last months to years with good home care and maintenance.

FAQ

Common questions.

Direct answers to the questions patients ask before booking — pain, sedation, recovery, and the steps from consultation to result.

  • Months to a couple of years, depending on diet and home care. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco shorten the lifespan; good brushing, regular cleanings, and occasional touch-up gels extend it.

  • No. Professional whitening gels used at Madeel are enamel-safe and contain ACP and fluoride to strengthen enamel during treatment. Damage usually comes from inconsistent over-the-counter products or DIY methods.

  • No, but temporary sensitivity is common for 24–48 hours after Zoom and during home whitening. A desensitising fluoride gel is applied after Zoom, and sensitive patients can use a lower-strength home protocol.

  • No. Whitening only lifts stains from natural teeth. Veneers, crowns, and fillings don't change colour, which is why whitening is often done before cosmetic restorations — so the new restoration matches the new shade.

  • Yes. The protocol adjusts — lower gel concentration, shorter wear time, or home whitening instead of Zoom. Tell the hygienist about sensitivity before treatment so the plan accounts for it.

  • Zoom can lift teeth up to eight shades in one visit. Home whitening achieves similar results over 1–2 weeks. Final shade depends on your starting colour and the type of staining — surface stains lift more than deep internal discoloration.

  • Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, dark sauces, and tobacco for 24–48 hours after Zoom — pores in the enamel are temporarily open and stain easily. After that, normal diet is fine, though heavy stain-causing intake will shorten how long the result lasts.

  • Neither is better — they suit different patients. Zoom gives fast, dramatic results in one visit. Home whitening is gradual, more affordable, and easier to maintain. Many patients do Zoom first and then use a home kit for touch-ups.
